Thinking C++: Part I by Randy Kaplan

Thinking C++ is a unique book created by an author with many years of programming experience. He does not believe in code-for-a-day or code-for-an-hour activities because, well, no one can learn to code anything in this span of time. In this book, Dr. Kaplan leads the reader through the necessary information to learn what is needed to write simple C++ programs and to be able to understand the programs that you write. The attention to understanding the programs that you write is what separates this book from other that promise to teach you to program. Although textbook like, this book is less of a textbook and more of a guide that takes the reader through the necessary basic concepts of programming. It assumes the reader will no use a computer to accomplish this as the author believes that having a computer and using the computer to learn to program actually interferes with the learning process. Based on solid teaching techniques with years of teaching experience behind them the reader will come away understanding the necessary concepts. Once understood the student can then go on to create programs that run successfully on computers. A book for beginners and those students who have learned to program but still find it a challenge.
